My Skincare Tips | #IrishBlogCollab

Hi everyone!

This weeks #IrishBlogCollab is all about Skin Care. I'm a fully qualified Beauty and Body Therapist so I know how important it is to have a good skincare routine. Here are some if my top skincare tips:

Daily Routine - Regardless of the type of skin that you have it's so important to look after it. Cleaning your skin twice daily is essential. During the night your skin sweats and produces natural oils so you should clean your skin first thing in the morning, otherwise applying makeup on top will clog your pores leading to nasty blemishes. Likewise it's important to clean your skin every evening. As the day goes on, as well as wearing makeup, your skin will sweat, produce more natural oils and also with environmental dust and particles in the air landing on your skin (it sounds horrible but it's true!), your skin needs to be cleaned at night. I cleanse, tone and moisturise my skin in the evening time and I was my skin with facial wash in the morning. This routine has been working for me and I do see a difference if I don't follow it!

Makeup & Sleep - Never ever sleep with your makeup on, no matter how tempting it can be. It is not healthy for your skin. If makeup is not cleaned at night time it will block and clog pores, leading to blemishes. Some makeup brands are marketed as being all natural and one cosmetic brand has even claimed that their makeup is so light that you can sleep in it! This is a strong claim but for me regardless of how light a makeup brand claims to be, it's NOT a good idea to sleep with your makeup on!

Water Intake - It is recommended that we drink at least 8 glasses if water each day. There are many reasons for this and ones such reason is to keep your skin healthy. Dehydrated skin can be dull in appearance, lacks collagen and elasticity and has many fine lines. I have noticed that my skin is much better in appearance, when I drink 8 glasses each day. Drinking plenty of water keeps the skin cells hydrated so reducing fine lines, that for me is a plus because I hate the thought of getting older

Exfoliation - I would recommend that you exfoliate twice per week. Exfoliating removes any dead skin cells and impurities on the skin surface. It also evens out the texture of the skin. I would use a mild exfoliant as I feel that an exfoliant that's too abrasive could harm your skin and possibly cause sensitivity.

Diet - For the skin, as with fitness, water intake and diet work hand in hand. Eating well is essential for healthy skin. I often find that my skin will break out if I've eaten poorly for a few days. Plenty of fruit and veg is needed in order to boost the collagen and elastin levels for healthy skin.

Face Mapping - The skincare brand Dermalogica provides a facial analysis called Face Mapping. The idea is that each area of your skin represents a different area of your body. It is great for understanding why you often break out in the same area i.e. The chin represents the ovaries, left and right depending on which ovary is ovulating. Face Mapping is great and it's worth looking into for anyone who has concerns about their skin. Dermalogica is widely available in salons so a simple google search should help you to locate a salon close by that provides the service.

I hope my tips and advice have helped.
